Itinerary

  • Day
    01

    Windhoek → Sesriem (Sossusvlei)

    Route: Windhoek → Rehoboth → Solitaire → Sesriem

    Distance / Time: ~350 km / 5–6 hrs (gravel sections)

    Activities:

    • Stock up in Windhoek or Rehoboth (food, water, diesel).
    • Drive the scenic Spreetshoogte or Remhoogte Pass into the Namib.
    • Sunset at Elim Dune or Sesriem Canyon.

    02

    Sossusvlei → Swakopmund (via Solitaire & Gaub/Kuseb Passes)

    Route: Sesriem → Solitaire → Walvis Bay → Swakopmund

    Distance / Time: ~360 km / 5–6 hrs

    Activities:

    • Sunrise at Dune 45 or climb Big Daddy.
    • Explore Deadvlei and Sesriem Canyon.
    • Drive north through the Gaub & Kuiseb Canyons, crossing the Namib gravel plains.
    • Evening on the Atlantic coast.

    03

    Swakopmund → Skeleton Coast → Damaraland (Ugab/Brandberg Area)

    Route: Swakopmund → Henties Bay → Skeleton Coast → Ugab River → Brandberg

    Distance / Time: ~250–300 km / 5–6 hrs

    Activities:

    • Drive past Cape Cross (optional stop for seals).
    • Enter the desolate Skeleton Coast Park — shipwrecks & foggy desert panoramas.
    • Turn inland via the Ugab River region towards Brandberg.
    • Look for desert-adapted elephants (if conditions allow).

    04

    Damaraland → Etosha National Park (Galton/Anderson Gate)

    Route: Brandberg → Khorixas → Outjo → Etosha

    Distance / Time: ~320–380 km / 5 hrs

    Activities:

    • Detour to Twyfelfontein (UNESCO rock engravings) if time allows.
    • Continue to Etosha National Park — enter via Galton Gate (west) or Anderson Gate (south).
    • Afternoon game drive.

    05

    Etosha Full-Day Overlanding & Game Viewing

    Route: Okaukuejo → Halali → Namutoni (or loop drives around Okaukuejo)

    Distance / Time: Flexible (100–250 km game driving)

    Activities:

    • Self-drive across the vast Etosha Pan.
    • Key waterholes: Nebrownii, Gemsbokvlakte, Goas, Rietfontein.
    • Evening waterhole viewing — often lions/elephants at dusk.

    06

    Etosha → Windhoek

    oute: Okaukuejo → Outjo → Otjiwarongo → Windhoek

    Distance / Time: ~430 km / 5–6 hrs

    Activities:

    • Morning game drive as you exit the park.
    • Lunch stop in Outjo or Otjiwarongo.
    • Arrive Windhoek late afternoon.
    • Drop-off & onwards travel

  • Vehicle: 4×4 with rooftop tent, dual battery, fridge, 2× spare tyres, compressor, recovery kit.
  • Fuel Strategy: Top up at: Rehoboth, Solitaire, Walvis Bay, Henties Bay, Khorixas, Outjo.
  • Water: 40–60L recommended (refill at camps).
  • Wild Camping: Only in permitted conservation/community areas.
